HOME LEARNING -WELCOME TO YEAR 3 - MRS BLOCK AND MRS CARRINGTON

Hi there Year 3!

Well we all thoroughly enjoyed a week in the Countryside and it was so lovely to see all the things you got up to. There are clearly going to be some very well looked after hedgehogs this summer!

Over the next two weeks, our topic stays local. We are going to be completing our village study. During the study we would really love it if you could all learn a little more about the village in which you come to school and its history. To help you on your adventure we have created some activities for you to take part in so that you can learn some facts about the village whilst also developing your historical skills including comparing maps and photos, looking at the clues around you in the village, interviewing older members of the community and using websites and newspaper articles. How you present your work is entirely up to you. For example you might create a powerpoint, write a story using the facts you find out to set it in the past, produce a video or build a model! The choice is yours.

As always your resources for other subjects are here too and don’t forget to check out the classroom daily where we have a chat, share each other’s work and post new ideas that might help. You can add any work to the slides in the classroom and send in emails if you would like to share what you are doing. There are lots of additional ideas in the ‘Get Creative’ section too!

Don’t forget we have a few additional things happening over the next fortnight. Monday 6th is the class Zoom for Mrs Block’s group and Tuesday 7th for Mrs Carrington’s. Make sure you have read the letter sent to parents as to how you can join in. Also, Transition Day is Wednesday 8th July. You will find out the name of your new Year 4 teacher on Tuesday and you will also be told the login code for your new Google Classroom ready for spending the day with them on Wednesday! How exciting! Make sure you login into our current Year 3 classroom to get all the information.

We look forward to hearing from you all and hope that your village study adventures unlock lots fascinating information and you might even see the village in a new light!

Maths

  • For a daily maths lesson White Rose Maths in partnership with the BBC Bitesize Daily team has developed a 12-week learning programme for the summer term. Each week five new lessons are added. Every lesson comes with a short video showing you clearly and simply how to help your child to complete the activity successfully.
  • TT Rockstars: TT Rockstars: Final year group battles start this week!
  • Complete one test per week from your Mental Arithmetic book.
  • For those of you who would like an extra challenge Mr Rawlinson will be adding a Daily Maths Challenge in your Google Classroom.

English

  • Keep reading! Try to read each day if you can. If you are running out of new books take a look at the Accelerated Reading website (www.renlearn.co.uk) . They are giving free access to 7,000 digital books and 5 daily news articles. laugh
  • Continue to practice spellings from the Year 3 Word Wall using your Spellings Strategies.
  • Have a look at www.pobble365.com for writing ideas. This resource starts with a 'weird, wonderful and/or thought provoking image' to encourage children to write imaginatively. The starter activities help launch ideas and also focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar choices to improve writing. Great for discussion and some fabulous images to choose from!  Hopefully, children will want to talk about what they see and then write about it.  There's also a colourful board below for the children to tick off different types of writing that they choose to do. Time to get creative!
