Committees - Pupil Voice for 2023-2024
School Council
AYJS has a School Council, which meets regularly. The aim is to give the class representatives a voice in the development and running of the school. Children know they are listened to and can make suggestions that will be taken seriously.
Sports Council
AYJS has a Sports Council. This is a group of pupils who work with the PE coordinator to represent the voice of pupils to promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
Worship Team
This is a group of pupils who meet to plan and lead worship and events to share and promote our Christian ethos.
House Captains
Each house will have a Y6 House Captain and Vice Captain who will lead and motivate their house . They will be involved in running house events to develop AYJS team spirit.
House System
Our House System is intended to extend friendships and team spirit between children of all age groups and encourages positive and inclusive behaviour.
The children are allocated a ‘House’ on entry to the school. Each house is named after an Archbishop of York, namely – Blanch, Habgood, Hope and Sentamu. House Points are awarded to pupils who show respect, observe school rules and routines, act responsibly or make a particular effort with their work. Any member of staff may award house points and parents/carers can also nominate their child. For example, if your child is helping the community/being responsible or kind outside school, a note to his/her teacher will result in a house point and extend the valuable link between home and school.
Throughout the year a number of activities, e.g. House days, take place in which children of all ages support each other and work towards completing a variety of tasks
