Friends of Bishopthorpe Junior School (FBJS)

FBJS raises funds to enhance the children’s school experience, in ways that the school budget could not stretch to.  This has included funding activities such as the Riding Lights theatre production, playground equipment, books, class resources, and Mental Maths books.

But FBJS is not just about fundraising, it’s also a great way to get to know other parents and have a bit of fun along the way!  Our meetings are usually held at the school or in the Marcia pub once a month.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas Raffle, either by buying tickets or donating prizes.  The raffle made nearly £1,000 which is fantastic! Another massive thank you to Barclays who are match funding the raffle, taking us up to £2,000.  When added to the funds raised at other events this term, that takes the grand total raised since September 2017 to over £3,000!

We are delighted that Cath Pryce is going to take over the role of Chair from Sarah Sharp.  A massive thank you to Sarah for all she has done, to Cath for all she is going to do!  Welcome also to Becki Stiles, who is joining the committee as Vice Chair.

Despite the rain we raised an amazing £850 at St Crux in October, thank you to everyone who supported the event on the day or by donating items for the cafe and stalls.

In 2016-17 we raised almost £7,000 for school, which was an amazing achievement! This included a £1,500 grant from the Ward Council for fencing in the Reflection Area. Lots of activities contributed to this total, with some of the highlights being the Christmas raffle (£2,000 - including match funding), Family games night (£700) and St Crux  (£930).  The funds raised purchased a wide variety of items to benefit the children, including history timelines for the classrooms and playground equipment such as new netball posts.
